From the latin oblīquus meaning, “slanting, sideways, indirect, or envious”. And oblique drawing is one that has one face in the 2D plane of the paper and the other faces are projected at an angle in parallel off of it.
There are two types of Oblique drawing
Cavalier
- comes from the military refering to the view from the back of a horse
- uses 45 degree angles and 1:1 scale
Cabinet
- comes from furniture makers who drew this way to help sell their products
- uses 45 degree angles and 1:5 scale
Here is a discussion of their merits. Put into your own words what you think about the two types of oblique sketches. Why are they important? What are their individual benefits? What are their individual drawbacks? Have you ever used these kinds of drawings without knowing it?
I could add a fact over here that was not covered in class, or not covered in depth. Maybe a neat drawing or picture that shows an oblique perspective?
